‘Even here in Wales, we still had to water our green roof last summer…’
John says that despite the wet location of the Guest House – with waterfalls metres from the house – at the start of the Covid crisis, the area had “beautiful, beautiful” weather and he had to water the green roofs to avoid damaging the “£12,000” investment in the technology.
We live in the mountains. I get waterfalls so spectacular you can see them from 5 miles away. And these are 100 metres from the house. Blaenau has a reputation for rain, which is not really justified but it can rain as much as wants in Blaenau but it will rattle down and flood down by the seaside. In terms of drought, yes, at the start of Covid, we had beautiful, beautiful spring and summer. I had to water the garden a lot. I’ve got two, green eco-roofs on detached buildings. One of them I put in 4 years ago – about £12,000 – and so I had to water that. So, in terms of watering the garden – oh, it doesn’t really matter or whatever – when you’ve invested £12,000 the last thing you want is the roof of the building to crack. So we did water that. That’s memories of drought, if you like.
