“Drought causing the decline of vegetation, leading to less competition for more drought-tolerant species to thrive”

Phoebe’s storyboard imagines a future in which drought causes the decline of vegetation, leading to less competition for more drought-tolerant species to thrive and a decrease in biodiversity.

Phoebe: So I’ve started with a really thriving ecosystem, with high biodiversity and then I’ve put how drought could affect it and everything starts to wilt and it can’t survive with the lack of water. And then, ’cause there’s such little competition, it enables more specific plants that are able to survive drought and maybe little sunlight, they’re able to thrive in those areas. So then they end up taking over and massively reducing biodiversity as well as affecting any other species that are dependent on the previous vegetation for food and habitat. They’ll also not be able to survive when it’s a different community and less biodiversity.
