“We have reduced our gas consumption by a third in the last ten years…”
“We have been tracking because, I said, we manage gas and electricity. We have been tracking degree day information for our energy consumption, for gas, probably since around, I dunno, probably, certainly since the year 2000. ’Cause I basically did that to look at how many kilowatt hours of gas that we use a year. Heating is our main, is our main usage of gas. Because heating the building. We have very few processes that use gas in the facility. So tracking the number of degree days per year, for heating purposes, is a good indication of whether, you know, if I spend more money on heating the building, through gas consumption, was it a colder year or was it a hotter year? I would say, and again, it’s not something I look at every week, but we have managed, in terms of managing gas, we have actually reduced our gas consumption, on site, by a third since, in the last ten years. So what I have got? I haven’t looked at it recently. What I have got is a chart of gas consumption versus degree days, through the year, year on year. I don’t get a sense, from that data, against the point where, you know, was I trying to say that the UK is it getting warmer or not getting warmer? From that information I wouldn’t conclude, I couldn’t conclude it was. However, you know, the things I do know at, because we monitor the water temperatures in our tanks, this year we are doing more flushing because the store water temperature is higher and the reason why we’re doing that is because if there is more uptake on water temperature if we don’t turn the water over. So I’m not convinced, either way, if the environment is getting worse but, of course, it’s a long term trend that we have to consider, I think.”
