“The winters in the 40s were much colder than today”

“I was just saying to my friend Pat, here, that I remember my mother telling me that they used to flood the Haugh Park. This would be in the 40s or 50s I guess, during winter, and they would flood it. The winters were much much colder then. Then the park would freeze and they would have bonspiels – curling in the park. But the winters in those days, I guess, were a bit colder.”
